Rooney lad goes to 'Brazil' footie school

WAYNE Rooney's son Kai will start training for footie stardom at a soccer school - at the age of just 16 months.

Man U's Wayne has enrolled him in Socatots - likely to turn him into a fleet-footed marvel such as Ronaldinho and other Brazilian aces, who develop talents from an early age.

As well as ball skills, sessions are also aimed at developing balance, coordination and "social interaction".

Scouser Wayne, 25, heard of a course in Cheshire and wasted no time in grabbing a place for Kai. A source said: "Wayne is encouraging Kai to get into football and has already bought him his first Everton kit, plus numerous United and England shirts. He has mucked about with a ball with Kai from an early age and hopes his son will inherit his natural ability."

Kai has already seen plenty of football. Mum Coleen, 25, takes him to most of the Red Devils' home games at Old Trafford.

Welcome to SOCATOTS® Bradford

SOCATOTS® is the world's first soccer specific physical play programme for children from six months to school age. Aimed at giving children their very first start with the ball. SOCATOTS® was developed by Simon Clifford and is a truly unique programme.  SOCATOTS® uses soccer or football as our medium and of course a child attending SOCATOTS® will greatly develop their skills in this area, however SOCATOTS® is about a great deal more than just developing a child's affinity and control with the ball, it is about giving them a well-rounded start in their physical, social and educational development and developing the 'whole child'.

Attending SOCATOTS® classes has enormous benefits for young children and their parents, some of which are listed below:

  • Improvement of balance and co-ordination, as well as posture
  • Development of cognitive skills
  • Increased self confidence
  • Improved social skills
  • Enhanced muscle and bone development
  • More body awareness and understanding of the benefits of exercise

Quotes & Comments

“I’ve met many great people in sport but one who now stands out as truly inspirational is Simon Clifford. A former teacher, he left teaching to set up the Brazilian Soccer Schools from his base in Leeds... Observing him coach ‘SOCATOTS®’ (Children aged as young as six months) right up to working directly with adult players was a breath of fresh air... Simon has redefined terms such as ‘passion’, ‘drive’, ‘energy’ and ‘winning’ in sport. He is not afraid of pushing out the boundaries to challenge his players and all those who work with him. He plans and thinks further into the future than anyone that I have ever met in my lifetime. He has a great future."

Sir Clive Woodward, from the Revised and Updated version of "Winning!"

That's One Nell of a Kick!

by Katie Baldwin - Yorkshire Evening Post

They’ve only just learned to walk – but tiny tots have been practising their ball skills with model mum Nell McAndrew.

The Belle Isle beauty took time out from caring for her baby son Devon to support Leeds-based Socatots. And she said she was already thinking of taking her newborn to the pre-school football skills training sessions when he's older.

Nell joined Socatots members at Leeds Metropolitan University's Headingley campus, where the youngsters showed her the games they have learnt. The 33-year-old said having Devon had made her especially interested in the scheme.

"This is fantastic," she said.
